Praise and Adoration

O God,

We praise you and adore you for you are our God, and there is none like you.

We confess you, our great God, to be supreme and majestic, ruling in splendor and power over all your creation.

We praise your eternality, the extraordinary thought that you never had a beginning. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

We praise your immutability, that you do not change. We hear your voice thunder from the scriptures, “For I the Lord do not change.”

We praise your perfect knowledge, that all things are naked and open before the eyes of him to whom we must one day give an account. Your eyes see everything down to tiniest subatomic reality to the farthest reaching star in your universe.

We praise your wisdom, O God, which is infinite. You know the number of the stars, and you call them all by their names. O Lord, how numerous are your works! In wisdom you have made them all!

O the depth of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are your judgments, and your ways past finding out.

And Lord God, lastly, we praise your sovereignty over all that is created. In your hand is the soul of every living thing, and the very breath of all mankind. Your dominion is an everlasting dominion, and your kingdom is from generation to generation. None can stay your hand or say to you, “What have you done?”

O Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, we give thanks to you for you are good, for your steadfast love endures forever.

Hear the petitions we bring to your throne now, and help us to trust your wisdom and providence in it all.

Salvation of All Men

Father, we pray for the salvation of all men. We pray that you would gather your elect from every corner of the world, and present them to Christ as a bride sanctified, washed with the water of the word, full of splendor, without spot or wrinkle, holy and without blemish. O Lord, the field is ripe unto harvest, and souls are ready to be regenerated by the sheer power of the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. There are millions and millions made in your image who sit in darkness, living in open rebellion before their Creator. They spurn your name, they do not seek you nor do they understand. They have turned aside, and have become worthless. Their throat is an open grave, and there is no fear of God in their eyes. O Lord, what a pitiful state the unconverted are in! What wrath they provoke from you! O Savior of sinners, let their blindness be turned into sight; let the veil over their eyes be taken away only through Christ. Father, glorify your name by saving sinners from eternal destruction, even those here now who do not know Christ. Add to your church daily those who are being saved for your renown.

Sanctification of the Saints

Father, we bring to you our own church, Gethsemane Baptist. We ask that you would continue to bless us and grow us. Increase our impact in our small town, and may all our neighbors know that they can encounter the Christ here in his word. Make us a discipling church, make us an evangelistic church, make us a praying church, and make us a holy church as you conform each and every one of us into the image of Jesus Christ.

O Lord, we give you thanks for one of our families in particular, Eric and Carissa, and their two boys, Seth and Ethan. We praise you for how you have been working in their lives. We pray that you would bless their home, and let the word of Christ dwell richly in them. Let the peace of Christ rule in their hearts, and conform each of them into his image. We pray for Eric as he leads his home. Bless him as the one you’ve tasked to be the leader in that home, and give him your grace as he provides for and protects the family you’ve given him. We pray that you would give your grace to Carissa as she homeschools and cultivates a godly home. Bless their lives together and give them your wisdom and discernment as they seek to live godly lives before you.

Special Request

Father, our hearts break over the unrest happening in the Myanmar Province in Southeast Asia. We pray for an end to the violence and an end to the political tyranny and unchecked power that has been occurring for the last two weeks. We pray especially for our brothers and sisters in Christ who find themselves in the midst of this unrest. O Lord, as they’re sitting in their homes wondering if they’ll be taken next as a part of these “enforced disappearances,” we pray that you would fill them with your Spirit and be a mighty Fortress to them. We ask that you would keep them from harm, and use this horrible tragedy to build your church in that place. Meet their every need for food, shelter, and safety.

The Word

Lord God, as we open your word, open our eyes that we might behold wondrous things out of your law.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
