Call to Confession: I John 1:5-7
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Prayer of Confession:
Our gracious and sin-pardoning God,
We appeal to you according to the multitude of your tender mercies as we admit to you that we are sinners and that we have sinned.
We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed.
You alone know how often we have sinned by wandering from your commandments, wasting your gifts, and forgetting your love.
We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have instead done those things which we ought never to have done.
We know that if we say “amen” to this prayer and yet we still intend to go on sinning, this prayer will have no effect on our lives.
So, we ask that you hear us as we individually confess our sins in silence to you now…
O Lord, we acknowledge our transgressions, and we humbly repent. Forgive us of all our trespasses as we turn to Christ alone in faith for the forgiveness of our sins.
Remind us of your word, which says that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness. Remind us that the depth of your forgiveness is not found in the sincerity of our repentance, but in the boundless love of our Redeemer, Advocate, and High Priest: Jesus Christ.
Father, deepen our sorrow over our sin. Let us not be comfortable with its presence in us. Give us your grace to be always running to our faithful God to find forgiveness, grace, and unending love.
We pray all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen!
Assurance of Pardon: Isaiah 54:8; 43:25; 44:22
In overflowing anger for a moment
I hid my face from you,
but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,”
says the Lord, your Redeemer.
“I, I am he
who blots out your transgressions for my own sake,
and I will not remember your sins.
I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud
and your sins like mist;
return to me, for I have redeemed you.
*If you have repented of your sins, and you are united to Christ by faith, then hear these words: In Christ Jesus, your sins have been pardoned.
