Pastoral Prayer (12/27/20)

Praise and Adoration

O Lord, our Lord,

How majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouths of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

When we look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, we’re left asking ourselves, “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” As we meditate on your wondrous works and on the glorious splendor of your majesty, we’re left saying, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8)

We ask now, Father, that you would hear our prayers as we make our requests known to you now. Answer them in your good timing and according to your will.

Salvation of All Men

We pray, Father, for the salvation of all men. We pray for the salvation of all kinds of people: people from every tribe, tongue, people group, and nation. We pray that all those whom you have predestined, for whom the Son has died, and will be raised to new life by the Spirit of Christ. We that you would overcome their resistance to the God of the gospel, and give them new hearts that no longer suppress the truth in unrighteousness. We pray for any here who are non-Christians. Thank you for bringing them here, and we pray that you would give them saving grace that would overcome their blindness from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. Cause any here who are your enemies to become your children through the preaching of the gospel and by the power of your Spirit.

Sanctification of the Saints

Father, we pray for our own church, Gethsemane Baptist. We pray that you would conform each of us into the image of your Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that we would be a church that understands the gospel and its implications in our lives. We ask that you give us a culture of discipleship in which we take responsibility for one another’s spiritual lives. Help us to take seriously the membership here that you have brought us into. We ask that you give us a culture of prayer in which we come boldly together to the throne of grace, praying with one another and for another. We ask for a culture of evangelism where our hearts break at the thought of sinners who might suffer eternal, conscious torment under your wrath. We ask for hearts that long to see people saved by the gospel.

We pray specifically for our members, Mike and Sheila, and their children: MJ, Madeline, Maya, and Morgan. We ask for your blessing on their lives as Mike and Sheila raise a godly family for your glory. We pray that you would fill Mike with your Spirit as he provides for and protects his home, and we pray that you would give Sheila wisdom and godly discernment as she cultivates a Christ-centered home. Fill them with your Spirit, and bless their marriage. We pray that you would convert their children through the gospel, and let them receive your blessing as they obey their parents in the Lord.

The Word

Lastly, we pray that your word would pierce our hearts as we hear it read and expounded. We pray with the Psalmist, give us understanding according to your Word.

We pray all this in Jesus’ name. Amen!
